I have truly never enjoyed a trip to Florida as much as I have this trip.

This is now my 4th time crossing the border into Florida, and in the past it's been a place of stress, depression, and extreme mountain sickness.

So needless to say, I wasn't particularly excited about driving into Florida this year.

I'm so happy I've been surprised.

Even after thinking I've found all of America's greatest small towns, there are still places that surprise me. And Apalachicola is one of those places.

Unlike so much of Florida that's being developed at a breakneck pace, Apalachicola is still WILD.

And thanks to local and government conservation practices, the animals here have made a pretty remarkable comeback. There are dolphins in the bay, bears in the forest, and most notably, millions of wild oysters coming back from the brink of extinction.

If you can't stand the "spring break vibe" that covers most of Florida and are looking for a wilderness experience, Apalachicola is my new favorite town in this whole state.
