Backpacking from Nichol's Lake (north trailhead) to High Banks Campground. Only five miles, but my original plan was to do that five miles after work Thursday and a bunch more hiking northward. Unfortunately, I got caught in a terrible storm and everything except what was inside my pack was soaked, so I stayed at High Banks Campground for two nights instead of the planned one.
Many lessons learned on this trip regarding backpacking/camping in rainy/stormy conditions. I'm still new at this, so happy to gain knowledge from experience even though it made for a difficult weekend. Definitely a fun time though and glad to spend some time outdoors on the trail camping with my brother.
The main lessons I learned were to always bring camp shoes. Bring extra pants or shorts (I only had one pair and it was not fun getting into them soaking wet on a cool morning). I also learned that I really hate hammock camping. I realize it's the latest craze, and everyone seems to really love them, but I just can't get into it and never get a good night's sleep. I gave it many chances, but I'll go back to a tent on future trips.
