Devil's Tower in Wyoming rises 867 feet with perfectly hexagonal columnar jointing running from base to summit. The National Park Service classifies it as an igneous intrusion — cooled magma that contracted into six-sided columns. But petrified wood displays the same hexagonal columnar geometry at every scale, produced by the identical physics of slow contraction and stress fracture. The 1879 Henry Newton survey for the United States Geological Survey documented displaced sedimentary strata curving around the base of the formation, a pattern consistent with either magma intrusion or a massive root system. Mesas, buttes, and tepuis across six continents share the same morphology — flat tops, vertical sides, columnar internal structure — and every indigenous name for them describes what they look like before geology reclassified what they are allowed to be.
The question beneath this video is not whether Devil's Tower is a tree stump. It is whether the 19th century geological taxonomy that classified these formations contained a category for biological origin at geological scale. It did not. When your classification system has no box for a possibility, that possibility cannot be discovered — it can only be assigned to the nearest available alternative. The Carboniferous fossil record documents 100-foot trees under 35 percent atmospheric oxygen. The formations still standing across the American Southwest display geometry identical to petrified wood at thousands of times the scale. The comparison has never been formally tested or formally debunked by the institutions that would need to answer. It has only been dismissed.
