A public-school teacher and a courageous group of Black mothers founded the Adult Education Center (AEC)—a first-of-its-kind program that trained 431 women to integrate the white-collar offices of New Orleans. Their success made front-page news, transformed corporate America, and helped turn the promises of the Civil Rights Act into lived reality.

Exchange Place is a new feature-length documentary from Philip Braun Productions, directed by Philip Braun, that brings this groundbreaking story to life through archival footage, intimate interviews, and original photography drawn from the memoirs of Dr. Alice Geoffray, the school’s director.

Produced in association with WYES (New Orleans PBS), PBS SoCal, and the national PBS network, the film is slated for broadcast and theatrical release in 2026, accompanied by nationwide events, university partnerships, and public-engagement programs exploring diversity, education, and the modern workplace.

More than a film, Exchange Place is a call to remember, reckon, and rise—a tribute to the families, students, and business leaders who proved that equality at work begins in the classroom.
