The A27 runs for 103 miles/166km, from the A36 at Whiteparish near Salisbury, through the northern suburbs of Southampton and Portsmouth as a non-primary road, mostly paralleling the M27 motorway, then it takes over as the main South Coast Trunk Road mainly as a fast dual carriageway to Chichester, Worthing, Brighton and Lewes, then as mainly single carriageway to finish at Pevensey where the A259 takes over the trunk road. Part of the A27 forms the boundary of the South Downs National Park, with a few sections running inside the park.
Although the A27 is the main south coast trunk road east of Portsmouth, it is still punctuated by some missing bypasses, at Arundel, Worthing and Lansing, where a variety of options have been proposed then cancelled.
This video shows a westbound journey along the A27, from the roundabout with the A2025 at North Lancing, to the roundabout with the A24 and A2032 adjacent to Worthing College.
