This track was the second release on Jive Records' short-lived dance imprint Zed Beat. Eric Red & Redzone's 'Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover' is a cover of the Paul Simon hit of the same name (UK #23, 1976) and debuted in November 1990. The track was produced by Abbott & Walmsley (that's Martin Abbott and Judith Walmsley) who were also songwriters. They wrote tracks together for acts like Cliff Richard and Big Fun, and also wrote this single's b-side, 'Capture My Heart'. Engineering and mixing on the A-side were handled by Paul Schroeder (The Stone Roses, Verve, Beth Orton) and Kris 'Thrash' Weston (The Orb, Depeche Mode, Erasure) respectfully.
Whilst their downtempo house cover of 'Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover' failed to chart in the UK, over in East Asia the Jive label included Eric and co. on a couple of various artists compilations. 'And The Beat Goes On' (Taiwan) and 'Modern Dance Jukebox' (Hong Kong) were both issued in 1992 and are the only digital sources of this track.
The Zed Beat label's other releases were both by Bronski Beat. 'I'm Gonna Run Away From You' (1990) and 'One More Chance' (1991) featured the group's third lead vocalist, Jonathan Hellyer, who superseded John Jøn (John Foster), who had himself superseded the original vocalist, Jimmy Somerville.
