Process:

The first segment of the video demonstrates the "start-up" of the system. Press the start button and the shredding and filtration system start simultaneously. The first form of media that is fed into the system were Thumb Drives. The video continues until the operator presses the stop button at which time the system proceeds a "timed shut-down" mode. During this "shut down" period of about 90 seconds, no additional material is fed into the system and the system continues to run to allow any remaining residual material in the cutting chamber to be disintegrated.

After the timed shut-down was complete, with the system off, SEM removed the shredded material from the collection bin, placed into a small bag, sealed the bag then placed the bag into a sealed envelope. Both the bag and envelope are labelled in accordance with RCMP instructions.

In order to keep each form of media segregated and prevent mixing of the shredded media, the system is cleaned by vacuuming the waste collection bin and the entire cutting chamber. This "clean out" process was completed each and every time prior to feeding a new form of media.

Simulated Solid State Hard Drives: Not having any 3.5" solid state drives to shred, in order to provide a replication of an SSD, "simulated" drives were created. Starting with a standard 3.5" Rotational Hard Drive, we removed the platters, read/write head and inner steel hub from the drive and kept the circuit board atop the housing. In effect, a very similar configuration that is typically found on Solid State Drives.
