Hildale 2017 election evidence of “real” change
HILDALE, Utah - + Video (November 30, 2017) - After generations of followers of imprisoned religious leader Warren Jeffs, residents of Hildale are leaving their controlled sect.
Members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (FLDS) are rapidly breaking off from the polygamist culture. The population of FLDS followers in Short Creek is said to be only 20%.
In it’s first competitive election Hildale voters elected it’s first woman, non-FLDS mayor, Donna Jessop.
Mayor-elect Jessop, along with two other on-FLDS candidates that prevailed in the city council election, visited Dixie State University during it’s Pizza and Politics forum. The newly elected officials spoke about their oppression during a panel discussion and relayed changes coming to their small southern Utah community.
