Exploring Nordstrom at Westfield San Francisco Centre

Описание: The San Francisco Shopping Centre opened 1988 as one of the largest and most popular malls in the entire country. It was developed by Sheldon Gordon, who also helped develop the famous Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. This mall once boasted many things that other malls couldn’t, and these things are what made San Francisco Center stand out. Here, you could find the first spiral escalators in the United States, manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric and on the top five floors, you could shop in the largest Nordstrom Department Store in the world. The other anchor of this mall, Emporium, closed in 1996. Westfield later acquired this property and between 2003 and 2006, the mall underwent a massive renovation. During this expansion, the Emporium store was completely gutted and converted into additional retail space, ultimately becoming part of the whole mall itself. The mall opened on September 28, 2006 as Westfield San Francisco Centre. Within the former Emporium store, the space now featured a new Bloomingdale’s department store, a massive Century Theater that featured 9 screens, plenty of new retail space, and a giant food court in the basement, cleverly named the Food Emporium.

The mall was successful up to the dreaded Covid 19 pandemic, which ended up being the beginning of the end. Stores started closing and the Century Theater closed in June 2023. One month later, Westfield pulled out of the property, adding to the steady decline. In August, Nordstrom closed, leaving the mall with only one anchor. Bloomingdale’s held on as long as they could and closed in April 2025. Since then, store after store began leaving at a rapid pace, and what was once a thriving and bustling shopper’s paradise became a desolate shell. In this video, I explore this mall on its last days and become one of the last members of the public to walk the floors of the former Nordstrom. January 26, 2026 marked the final day of this once-thriving mall. Enjoy the video.
