This 2-minute film is an editing experiment with public domain media from the Internet Archive. Using the 1930 film ‘Holiday’, quirky statements, which can be described as ‘humorous words of wisdom’ from 95 years ago, were selected. Public domain film imagery was then identified from other sources, inspired by the sound bites / clips from 'Holiday'. These include clips from films by Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Mack Sennett Studios. The statements from ‘Holiday’ prompted imagery that adds more humor and engagement with the dialogue.
The project is part of the Public Domain Film Remix Contest, which celebrates creative reuse of newly public domain works.
The assignment was to remix films and sound recordings that entered the U.S. public domain in 2026, which include creative works from 1930 and sound recordings from 1925. The contest highlights the power of the public domain to fuel creativity, preservation, and access.
