Harvard 'needs every penny they can get,' faces financial fallout after defying Trump order

Описание: The Trump administration has withdrawn $2.2 billion in federal funding from Harvard University, escalating tensions between the White House and elite academic institutions.

Despite Harvard's $53 billion endowment, much of it is restricted and inaccessible for routine operating costs. Federal funding accounts for two-thirds of Harvard's annual research budget and 11% of its annual operating costs.

Jay Greene, a senior research fellow at The Heritage Foundation noted, "They actually need every penny they can get from the federal government and if they fall short by several hundred million dollars or a couple billion dollars then they are going to have a very hard time making ends meet."
