It’s really difficult to rehearse an investor presentation when you’re doing it in front of people that aren’t used to hearing pitches to investors. Investors are quite an unusual breed; they spend a lot of their time listening to people appealing to them. Appealing to their emotions, appealing to their wallets and it’s quite exhausting. You need somebody on the other side of the table, when you’re rehearsing, who’s been in that position, who knows what it feels like to be pitched to and can feedback to you and say, ‘this is what you’re making me feel’. So, look for that person who’s going to be able to replicate the investor during your rehearsals. It’s critical.
If you want to rehearse an investor presentation, you need to have all of your material ready, and then you need to give yourself time to practice. We typically recommend at least three full run-throughs in a situation as realistic as possible to the one that you’re going to be faced with on the day. One of the things that we offer to clients is a role play scenarios in which we play prospective investors and make the situation as realistic as possible to the one that you’re going to face on the day. Just the way that great artists and great sportsman practice, you need to practice because you won’t get another opportunity with that prospect.
