Retro ads compilation (4)

Описание: Another hand-picked selection for those who grew up in the UK back in the 80s and 90s (mostly 80s, this one, actually). There's the usual junk food and toys and all that, plus I'm a sucker for animation that was clearly more effort than strictly necessary - the KP Skips and Jaffa Cakes ads, for instance. Look at them! Wonderful. (And contrast with the no-expense-spent Casio and Amrik's ones...) All that, just to sell a product that had perfectly good brand recognition already by that point. Speaking of which, I'm still waiting for a sensible explanation of why anyone ever felt the need to advertise milk. In case we forgot it existed and stopped pouring it in our tea/coffee/Coco Pops?

Other things to look out for: Boycie getting "MeToo'd" in an ad with the slogan "I could do with a D" (which of course would have an entirely different slang meaning now); a Rice Krispies ad set in the oh-so-futuristic year of 2014, featuring a villain straight out of LazyTown; the utter wetness of girls' toys versus the over-aggressive nature of boys'; Vimto coming up with a campaign based on Gloria Estefan's Rhythm Is Gonna Get You but forgetting to actually license the song (I'm guessing); and celebrity voices such as Bill Oddie, Chris Barrie and Lenny Henry, amongst others.

Pink Windmill Corner: there's an ad here featuring no fewer than five of the Pink Windmill Kids all together. See if you can spot - and name - them! Not easy. Also, there's a girl who looks a lot like Abbie just before the 12-minute mark, but for all the world it seems to be an American ad, what with all that frame blending going on. (That used to be very noticeable in poor PAL conversions.) [EDIT: Yes, it's confirmed, it is Abbie!]
