How do you heat your home? Wood is our only heat source for our yurt.
With winter temperatures going down at times to colder than -40 degrees Celsius, in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada, wood is essential for our survival.
So how do we get it?
Well, we have bartered for wood and have even got it as a Christmas present!
In this video, you will see 3 other ways we get firewood.

Three Ways We Get Our Firewood Explained:
1. We order firewood from our wood guy and he delivers it to the parking spot. We then need to move it to our yurt that is nestled in the forest. The going rate for wood in Whitehorse, Yukon Canada right now is $500 for a cord of bucked wood.
2. "Free" FireSmart. We don't need to pay cash for the wood, but it definitely takes time and physical effort. FireSmart is a Yukon government program that hires professionals to cut trees and other brush to manage wildfires. The wood left stacked on public land is free for the taking.
3. "Free" Permit. No payment for the permit or the wood, but the time, effort, gas, equipment, know-how, etc. is definitely costly. We love the experience of being out in the bush, working together as a family to get the work done, and making sure to keep some standing dead trees for the wildlife.
Enjoy the show!
