Empty Desert tells the story of Al Araqib, a Bedouin village in southern Israel fighting for its right to exist. The village has been demolished countless times by Israeli government authorities who are planning a forest in its place. After each demolition, the Al-Turi family, who call this slice of land their home, have patiently rebuilt their shelters. The documentary follows Sheikh Saiah, Aziz, Sabah, Hala, Fatima, Salim and the others as they resist erasure, and through interviews with academics and activists it explores the wider struggle of Bedouins in the Negev for the right to live on their ancestral lands.
With English, Arabic and Hebrew subtitles.
