Dyatlov Anatoly - deputy chief engineer for operation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant at the time of the disaster. In 1987, he was recognized as one of the perpetrators of the Chernobyl accident and was convicted by a special judicial panel to ten years in prison. Responsibility for the incident denied until his death. He claimed that the accident occurred due to the non-compliance of the RBMK reactor with the nuclear safety requirements. The main culprit of the catastrophe called the reactor program development program academician A. P. Alexandrov.
On the night of April 26, 1986, Dyatlov was a senior officer at the station, was on the control panel of the fourth power unit at the time of the accident and supervised the actions of the operators. He was responsible, among other things, for conducting tests of the “run-down mode of the turbogenerator”, which would allow the inertial rotation of the generator rotor to be used to supply process pumps with power when a station could be de-energized. After the explosion, he considered the reactor to be muffled, he gave orders to ensure its cooling. According to Dyatlov, closer to the middle of the night he was convinced of the destruction of the reactor after the discovery of reactor graphite in the station. This information is confirmed by the memories of one of the shift commanders of the fourth power unit, Yuri Bregub. According to Dyatlov, at night he reported on the destruction of the reactor, but his words were ignored.
