Catherine Hayward and her family live in a beautiful 16th-century Grade II listed thatched cottage in the picturesque village of Hook Norton, North Oxfordshire. On their property, they also have a Grade II listed barn, which they wanted to convert into extra living space as their family grew. But there was one major issue—the barn was bitterly cold and almost impossible to heat, making it unsuitable for use as a recreational space or home office.
Determined to make the space usable, Catherine and her family undertook a challenging retrofit of the barn. As with any listed building, preserving its character was crucial, and they succeeded in balancing modern energy-saving measures with the charm of their much-loved barn. The result? A warmer, more comfortable space that’s now an integral part of their home.
At Cosy Homes Oxfordshire, we’re here to help you achieve similar transformations, providing a one-stop home retrofit service that makes your home cosier, healthier, and more energy efficient—all while preserving its character. Supported by local and national partners like the Low Carbon Hub, the National Energy Foundation, and RetrofitWorks, we’re ready to guide you through your retrofit journey.
