Today we explore an Abandoned Island In Wales, Hidden in the Dwyryd Estuary in North Wales lies a small tidal island that almost nobody visits today. Known as Ynys Gifftan, this abandoned island was once home to fishermen and farmers who lived here until the 1960s. Today the island sits completely isolated for most of the day, only reachable when the tide goes out, revealing a narrow path across the estuary.
In this adventure I travel through rural North Wales, walk across the marshland, and wait for the tide to retreat so I can make the journey out to the island. What remains today is a fascinating and forgotten place surrounded by stunning landscapes, powerful tides, and incredible history.
