The capacitor in the sample switching power supply was damaged - high ESR values, discharging itself quickly into the circuit. Otherwise the discharger works perfectly.

I used an 8W 470R resistor but you can also use a 4W resistor with a value around 1K. Such will be dimensionally smaller and will fit in the space. But for example you can also use 3 or 4 resistors in parallel with lower wattage with values 2K2 - 4K7.
