At the outset of the Hundred Years War, a group of motivated English archers annihilates a mounted French contingent twice its size. More than 1,500 landed nobles perish—including a king—and the way is cleared for a siege which gives the English a foothold on the continent for the next 200 years.
In this video I give a general overview of the Viking settlement, the Norman Conquest, and the Hundred Years War. I talk about the far-reaching political, social, and psychological impacts of the first major land battle of that war, which took place near the French town of Crécy on August 26, 1346.
At 8:41 I include 11 seconds from the motion picture"300" directed by Zack Snyder with VFX Supervisor Chris Watts, distributed by Warner Bros https://www.warnerbros.com/movies/300
