One of my favorite books is 'The Tracker' by Tom Brown Jr. In it he describes growing up in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. His best friend was a Native American boy who lived with his grandfather.
Grandfather, as they both called him, was one of the last of the great trackers. He could walk through the woods without a sound and tell you what animals had been there and what they had done.
Both boys learned the same skills.
My favorite quote from the book is this:
"The first track is the end of a string. At the far end, a being is moving; a mystery, dropping a hint about itself every so many feet, telling you more about itself until you can almost see it, even before you come to it. The mystery reveals itself slowly, track by track, giving its genealogy early to coax you in. Further on, it will tell you the intimate details of its life and work, until you know the maker of the track like a lifelong friend."
I have thought about that quote many times over the years. I started out wanting to be able to track and observe animals. But over time, my thoughts were elevated. What if there was a greater mystery that I could track? What if I could track God? Would that help to make us lifelong friends?
The posts that I share here will be observations that I have made through the years on how we can see clearly the nature of God in his works. We will be tracking God in Nature.
