Assets are made by Blizzard (Diablo 1 Zombie) and Pyro Studios (Rifleman and terrain + sounds).
Here is a very brief showcase of the intro, and also how the movement system works - as well as some debug info on how Zombies trace you, or others.
A BLUE line means they prefer walking up to you, while RED means they would think that using a portal is a shorter path to you.
Portals work by teleporting only zombies from the Entrance portal to the Exit portal that is closest to the player/player's backup. They also have some cooldowns.
Rifles just have 5 bullets, after which reload automatically kicks in.

This demo was written in C++ using a framework called the PixelGameEngine written by Javidx9
While it is not an actual game engine, it is a framework that helps with loading PNGs, loading sounds and helps with keyboard input or graphical functions (Draw, PutPixel, Rect, etc.)
Something around the lines of SDL/FLTK/etc. the difference is it helps you with DeltaTime, and offers many ready to use facilities.
AND - it's just one header file! the setup is EXTREMLY easy and very beginner friendly.
The PixelGameEngine does not facilitate in the actual implementation of the game engine itself or any help regarding animations system, ai, etc
