The Old Mutual Wealth Double Century 2025 (Part 1)

Описание: Part 1 of the Double Century video entails the preparation leading up to the week. Collecting the numbers at registration, handing over the team goodie bags and of course the gees of the entire week, and especially the day before with the road trip etc.

Spirits were high, everyone was excited but also nervous at the same time. I have to admit all the emotions and preparations for the past few weeks took a hell of a toll on me. And then ofcourse there’s always some incident that happens the day before. We had quite a few, from a slightly delaminated carbon wheel, to a tyre that burst the night before waking everyone up. Stay tuned for part 2 to see how the race actually unfolded.

The Old Mutual Wealth Double Century is a 202km Team Time Trial event in the Swellendam area of the Western Cape. It’s a 12 man team event that starts in Swellendam and goes over Tradouw Pass and then Op De Tradouw Pass to get to Montague. You then had back to Swellendam via Ashton and Bonnievale.

The race is 202KM long with 2100m of elevation gain. You also get 2 timed stops where your time is paused for 40min and 30min respectively. You also require a support vehicle and a support team that carries all your food and nutrition and any other spare parts etc.

In terms of road cycling, this one of the premier events in South Africa. Because it’s a team event which showcases camaraderie, team work etc it makes it pretty unique.
