Secondary nutrients like Calcium (Ca) are the foundation of reclamation; Ca displaces toxic sodium ions, improving soil porosity and root aeration, while Sulfur (S) aids protein synthesis and helps lower soil pH to enhance nutrient availability.
Micronutrient management is equally critical, as high pH often renders them unavailable. Zinc (Zn) is the most essential, acting as a catalyst for growth hormones and tillering; deficiency leads to "Khaira" disease and stunted growth. Boron (B) is indispensable for the reproductive phase, ensuring proper pollen germination and reducing grain sterility.
The synergy of these nutrients leads to significant yield gains. Secondary and micronutrients ensure metabolic efficiency and stress tolerance. In sodic environments, applying these via foliar sprays at critical stages—such as active tillering and panicle initiation—is highly effective.
In this video farmer opined his experience regarding the nutrient management in sodic soils by using different secondary nutrients and micronutrients in his field and get more yield as compared to his previous year/season.
