The Long Journey to Suffrage
Women began to organize to advance the cause for women’s rights long before the passage of the 19th amendment in 1920, which officially recognized women’s right to vote at the federal level. The San Diego History Center’s Dr. Tina Zarpour, Samantha Alberts, and Leilani-Alontaga-Caithness facilitated a webinar presentation and conversation about what suffrage means today, and how securing the right to vote has been a long struggle, that for some, continues to this day.
