Welcome to another installment of the live album series! Today I got the NA Queen II Tour for you. After going on their first ever headlining tour through the United Kingdom just a month prior, the band return to Mott the Hoople's opening band on their first ever tour through the States as both of the bands were quite happy with their arrangement on last year's Queen I Tour. Quite understandably, Freddie was reportedly nervous during the tour which would turn out to be a great first step to conquering the world in the years to come! Unfortunately for the band, the tour had to be ended early after a six-show run at the Uris Theatre on Broadway as Brian caught hepatitis from a vaccination he received in January when the band played at Sunbury Festival in Australia. The band was replaced by "Kansas" for the remainder of the tour. Interestingly enough, at one show people kept shouting for Queen since the change hadn't been announced, prompting one of Kansas's band member to tell them to "shut the f*ck up and listen".
The setlist is a slightly abbreviated version of the set heard on the popular March Rainbow show which took place on March 31st, the penultimate show of the UK Queen II Tour. Setlist variation wasn't too common at this early stage of the band's tours but we have some neat changes as the band replaced "Great King Rat" with the non-album track "See What a Fool I've Been", the B-side of the UK hit single "Seven Seas of Rhye" which couldn't be played on this tour as the band had no piano available and Mott the Hoople understandably didn't want to have their piano tuned for their opening act. Furthermore, the band switched up the encore a few times from the usual medley of "Big Spender" and "Bama Lama Bama Loo" to the "Jailhouse Rock" medley, featuring the "Stupid Cupid" bit in the middle.
PS: I tried some speed correction on New York's tape but wasn't too successful, especially on "Keep Yourself Alive". Sorry for my lack of talent in that regard :(
