Bridging Culture and Technology - The Interactive Chinese Lion Head

Описание: This video presents the Interactive Chinese Lion Head — a collaborative project at the University of Groningen that fuses robotics, AI, and cultural heritage.

The system uses real-time emotion recognition and Dynamixel servos to animate the lion’s mouth, eyes, and ears in response to human facial expressions. Powered by a Raspberry Pi 5 and the DeepFace library, the lion reacts to emotions such as happiness, sadness, surprise, or neutrality — bringing the traditional Chinese Lion Dance to life through modern technology.

This work builds upon earlier prototypes (a spherical parallel manipulator and a 5-DOF facial mechanism) and demonstrates the potential of “Culture Tech”: the intersection where engineering meets art and tradition.
