Описание: The Singapore equities market is known for being a strong dividend market, supported by a capable government and a stable currency. In fact, long-term equity returns here have mainly been driven by reinvested dividends over the years. However, a corollary of this reputation is that some investors might view Singapore equity markets as somewhat unexciting, which has led to a decline in listed companies here on the back of privatisations. The central bank has finally acknowledged this issue in recent times, and has launched an initiative (the Equity Market Development Programme, or EQDP for short) to tackle this head on. Since the news of this decision was announced, we have seen an uptick in trading activity and a corresponding rise in market valuations. It remains to be seen if this initiative can drive improved earnings and more exciting listings going forward. If successful, perhaps it is time for this lion to awake from its slumber...
