Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium Grow Lights are the industry standard for indoor gardening year round. These Lighting Systems have wattages much higher than available with Florescent and LED technology allowing for bigger plants and higher yields.

When growing indoors we need to match the natural sunlight changes through the seasons. That's why we have two different bulbs, the Virtual Sun Metal Halide bulb, and the Virtual Sun High Pressure Sodium bulb.

Virtual Sun Metal Halide Bulbs, common referred to as MH Bulbs, have a higher Kelvin Temperature at 4200K, which replicates the Cool White Summer Sun and is used during a plant's growth phase. Virtual Sun MH Bulbs can be used for the complete growth cycle of leafy green plants like lettuces and herbs. Virtual Sun Metal Halide Bulbs are available in 400 watt 36,000 Lumen, 600 watt 60,000 Lumen and 1000 watt 110,000 Lumen sizes to accommodate any growers needs.

Virtual Sun High Pressure Sodium Bulbs, commonly referred to as HPS Bulbs, have a lower Kelvin Temperature, at 2100K, which replicates the orange Fall Sun and is used 12 to 16 hours a day during a plant's Flowering or Fruiting phase.

Virtual Sun HPS Bulbs produce 30% more Blue/Violet light than standard Bulbs for larger harvests of higher quality herbs, vegetables, fruits or flowers. Virtual Sun High Pressure Sodium Bulbs can be used for year round supplemental greenhouse light, but should not be used for the complete growth cycle of indoor plants as this can cause the plants to become stretched out as they search for bluer light. Virtual Sun HPS Bulbs are available in 400 watt 50,000 Lumen 600 watt 90,000 Lumen and 1000 watt 125,000 Lumen sizes to accommodate any growers needs.

Every Virtual Sun Grow Light Bulb produces 10% more light than standard bulbs. 10% more light = 10% more plant growth.

Virtual Sun recommends that you keep your Metal Halide or High Pressure Sodium bulb 12 - 36 inches from your plants, no more. Remember the lumen rating, your usable light, drops significantly the farther the bulb is from your plants.

Virtual Sun suggests you use Virtual Sun Grow Light Hoods and Ballasts for best results, but all bulbs are compatible with any standard E39 Mogul Hood, and either Digital or Magnetic Ballast systems. When used properly Virtual Sun Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium Bulbs will last over 10,000 hours for MH, and over 20,000 hours for HPS allowing you to use your Bulbs cycle after cycle.
