In the state of California, Robbery (as defined by Penal Code 211 PC) is always a felony and carries a potential sentence of up to 5 years in state prison. In addition, the crime of robbery is a strike under California Three Strikes law. Furthermore, the use of a gun or firearm while committing the robbery can dramatically increase the prison sentence under California's "10-20-Life" sentencing law, with up to a "25-to-life" sentence if a victim is shot or killed.
