St Chad's is the Church of England parish church covering the south-west outskirts of Sunderland, Tyne & Wear. The parish serves the areas of Farringdon, Lakeside/Gilley Law and East & Middle Herrington. We are part of the Group of the Annunciation along with St Mary & St Peter (Springwell, Plains Farm and Thorney Close) and St Mary, St Thomas and St Oswald (Pennywell, Grindon and South Hylton).
There's worship every day at St Chad's or in one of the group's churches. Here at St Chad our principal act of worship is the Parish Eucharist every Sunday at 9.30am (but see special arrangements below during the Covid-19 crisis). Children are especially welcome at this service and fully included in worship here. You can find full details of our regular services here.
At St Chad's we aim to be an open, inclusive and welcoming community, especially if you're new to church or exploring your faith for the first time, or if you're coming back for the first time in a while. There's a lot going on in our community and the easiest way to keep up to date is to follow us on Facebook or Twitter
We will be reopening for public worship from Sunday 14 March, with every Sunday the Holy Eucharist at 8.00am, 9.00am and 10.00am, with full Covid precautions. From 17 March, the Eucharist will also be celebrated every Wednesday at 9.30am.
We currently send out by email a weekly news-sheet, which includes the Sunday readings and a sermon or reflection on these. Email [email protected] if you'd like to be added to the mailing list for this.
We will keep in touch by email, phone, and on social media. If you don't already, do follow our Facebook and Twitter pages. If you're anxious or just need someone to talk to, please feel free to contact Father Jeremy on (0191) 528 2397.
ST CHAD'S COMMUNITY HALLhas been completely refurbished during this time, and we look forward to welcoming new and existing community groups when it becomes possible to return. For hall enquiries, contact Sheila Smith, 0191 520 2143 or [email protected]
We love helping couples prepare for and celebrate a marriage at St Chad’s. It's your day, and we will work with you on the details, to plan it in exactly the way you would like it to happen.
We are now able to offer weddings again, but currently as a simple service, without hymn singing, with a maximum of 30 present (by law, under Covid-19 regulations). Contact Fr Jeremy on 0191 528 2397 or email us to make arrangements. The limitations are likely to ease in the future, but it's impossible at the moment to know exactly when that will be. There are certain rules under the marriage law about who can be married in St Chad's, mostly related to residence in or past links with our parish (the area we serve). We can check these with you when you first enquire.
