Living in Japan as a foreigner, one thing that really surprised me is how often people comment on your body — especially your weight.
From coworkers and friends to complete strangers, my appearance often becomes a conversation topic. Sometimes it’s meant kindly, sometimes it’s just cultural honesty, but it can still feel awkward, personal, or even uncomfortable.
In this video, I share my experiences with body comments in Japan, why this kind of talk is more normal here, and how it feels to constantly have your body noticed and discussed as a gaijin.
It’s not about blaming — it’s about understanding cultural differences, setting boundaries, and talking honestly about what life in Japan is really like.
