Graptolites are abundant Ordovician and Silurian fossils, used very widely in biostratigraphy. They are also fascinating things in their own right, though, and there are still lots of unknowns surrounding their ecology, and especially thir biology. One of the biggest mysteries of them all is how a colony can be so co-ordinated as to create a consistent, highly detailed tubarium, in which each clone has to do slightly different things...
