The video includes the processes of geometric transformation, georeferencing, and digitizing in ArcGIS Pro. Georeferencing is a process used in geographic information systems (GIS) and cartography to assign real-world geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) to spatial data that does not originally have such coordinates. It involves aligning or "referencing" data to specific locations on the Earth's surface, allowing it to be accurately positioned and integrated with other geographic information. In this assignment, seven tiles from the USGS topographic map collection in Salt Lake City have been digitized. Moreover, six satellite images were also digitized.
To digitize a Scanned Map or Raster Image in ArcMap, Georeferencing is the image or scanned map is a precondition.
Digitizing is the process of converting geographic features of a Projected and Georeferenced Scanned map into a digital format. The X, Y coordinates of a point, line, and polygon features are recorded and stored as the spatial data. The feature attributes are also recorded during the digitizing process. The assignment contains the task of digitizing the part of the California Trail that is located across Salt Lake and Tooele County.
