In this PART 4, I show how we can use Test-Teach-Test for clarifying grammar.

Test, Teach, Test (TTT) is a technique for clarifying language which is used when students clearly have some knowledge of the grammar they are going to learn, but there are gaps in this knowledge. This is frequently the case with intermediate and advanced learners, and test-teach-test enables the teacher to hone in on what students need to learn without clarifying what they know already.

The benefits of using Test-Teach-Test.

• Students first use their own knowledge.
• The teacher can base their clarification on the results of the first test
• Students become aware of their own knowledge of the target language first, to perceive their
difficulties and needs for learning.
• It enables teachers to work with big volumes of language which need to be either revised or
taught.
• There is an element of peer teaching, which fosters cooperative learning.
• Students are taught what they need to learn, not only what the teacher/book prescribe.
