Ta Gon, portrayed by Jung Dong-gun, is a brilliant king known for his uncanny wit and strategic prowess. He has solidified his power through conquests of various tribes, particularly in the elimination of the Neanthals, mysterious beings with blue blood who possess super speed and strength. However, unbeknownst to almost everyone, Ta Gon himself is an "Igutu," a mixed-blood individual with both human and Neanthal heritage.

In this scene, Nun-byeol (played by Lee Si-woo), an orphaned Neanthal, seeks revenge by attempting to assassinate Ta Gon. With only a few surviving Neanthals left in the land, Nun-byeol is considered the strongest of her kind.

Synopsis:
The series is being recognized as the first Korean ancient fantasy drama. Its draws loose inspiration from the tale of Dangun, the founder of the inaugural Korean Kingdom of Gojoseon, and Asadal, the capital from which the series derives its name.

In Season 1, the story centered on Ta Gon as he schemed his way to become the ruler of Arthdal. Meanwhile, a pair of separated twins, Saya and Eun Seom, along with Tanya, who is destined to be the next spiritual mother, discovered that they are the mirror, sword, and bell, respectively, in an ancient prophecy foretelling that they would cause the end of the world.

The time setting for Season 2 is approximately eight years later than Season 1. Over the years, King Ta Gon succeeded in quelling the massive rebellion of the tribes. Simultaneously, Eun Seom managed to unify 30 clans under the "Agos Union" and became Inaishingi. Saya became a General in Arthdal, and Tanya is the High Priest of the city.

With Eun Seom and the Agos Union gaining more prominence and power, King Ta Gon ordered Saya to lead Arthdal's elites in an all-out war.

The first season aired from 1 June to 22 September 2019, on tvN's Saturdays and Sundays at 21:00 (KST) time slot.

The second season premiered on 9 September 2023 on tvN and airs every Saturday and Sunday at 21:20 (KST).

It is available for streaming on Netflix for the first season and on Disney+ for the second season in selected regions.
