The Mandarin Duck's homeland is – as the name suggests – China. It came to us as early as 1745 as a pet bird. Over the years, some animals occasionally escaped from captivity. And because they found favorable living conditions in Central Europe, they spread further here as well.
The Mandarin Duck is one of the smaller ducks, measuring a maximum of 49 centimeters. It belongs to the glossy duck family. These are ducks that live predominantly in forests and are named so because their plumage is sometimes brilliantly colored, but in any case, has a metallic sheen.
These birds love quiet bodies of water surrounded by trees. They build their nests in tree hollows that can be up to nine meters high. This means that the Mandarin Duck is a good climber. It is also a talented flyer, moving very skillfully through the branches.

Im Lauf der Jahre entflohen immer mal wieder Tiere aus der Gefangenschaft. Und weil sie in Mitteleuropa gute Lebensbedingungen fanden, haben sie sich hier auch weiter verbreitet.
Die Mandarinente ist mit maximal 49 Zentimetern eine der kleineren Enten. Sie gehört zu den Glanzenten. Das sind Enten, die überwiegend in Wäldern leben und diesen Namen tragen, weil ihr Gefieder teilweise prächtig gefärbt, auf alle Fälle aber metallisch glänzend ist.
Die Vögel lieben stille Gewässer, die von Bäumen umstanden sind. Das Nest legen sie in Baumhöhlen an, die bis zu neun Meter hoch liegen können. Das bedeutet, dass die Mandarinente gut klettern kann. Eine begabte Fliegerin ist sie auch – sie bewegt sich sehr geschickt durch die Zweige."

Patria raței mandarine este – așa cum sugerează și numele – China. A ajuns la noi încă din 1745 ca pasăre de companie. De-a lungul anilor, unele animale au scăpat ocazional din captivitate. Și pentru că au găsit condiții de viață favorabile în Europa Centrală, s-au răspândit și aici.
Rața mandarină este una dintre rațele mai mici, măsurând maximum 49 de centimetri. Aparține familiei rațelor lucioase. Acestea sunt rațe care trăiesc predominant în păduri și sunt numite așa deoarece penajul lor este uneori viu colorat, dar, în orice caz, are un luciu metalic.
Aceste păsări iubesc apele liniștite înconjurate de copaci. Își construiesc cuiburile în scorburi de copaci care pot avea până la nouă metri înălțime. Aceasta înseamnă că rața mandarină este o bună cățărătoare. Este, de asemenea, o zburătoare talentată, mișcându-se foarte abil printre crengi.
