Grass snakes lay their eggs in our compost heap. The first clip is a female grass snake which has just laid eggs in the compost heap. The compost heap is warm, which is good for incubating the eggs. They lay up to 40 eggs.
The newly hatched babies are only 3 inches long, but are identical to the adults.
Grass snakes do not bite and are not venomous. They do, however, emit a noxious discharge if threatened, as I have discovered!
