Here's what I found out when you cross the border from Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná. It is such a popular destination that people cross everyday for many reasons including duty-free shopping, tourism, transport, and for studying at a Medical school (it is cheaper in Paraguay than in Brazil). Ciudad del Este is a popular city which is different from the rest of Paraguay.
You can cross the border by walking, by motorbike tax, car or bus. The unwritten rule is that you visit the other side for up to 30km and return the same day without a visa stamp. But if you choose to leave one of the countries then you can go inside the immigration offices on each side.
