Founded by a Norman knight called Bernard de Croft in 1085...close descendent to mortimer and wigmore family.
During war of the roses...civil war....south sea bubble they lost the house due to financial issues...and sold to Richard Knight..a wealthy ironmaster in 1746...kevill-davis family in 18th century
But lady katherine croft with her baroness son repurchased in 1923!!
1957 passed on to national trust with some croft members!
