Lisa Shoemake of Wiggins, Mississippi shares the story of losing her 16-year-old son, Tristan, to illicit fentanyl just one month after his birthday. Tristan was an honor student with a 32 ACT score, an athlete, and a young man with big dreams of becoming an Air Force K-9 handler. Despite his mother’s years of warning him about drugs, older adults introduced him to substances that ultimately led to his death after Christmas. In this emotional testimony, Lisa reflects on Tristan’s kind spirit, his disrupted home life, and the devastating impact fentanyl is having on kids like him. She now dedicates her days to fighting fentanyl, raising awareness, and keeping her son’s memory alive while urging parents and teens alike to understand that “one time can be forever.”

Naloxone, the active ingredient in 4mg Narcan and higher dose 8mg Kloxxado, along with many generic versions, can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly enough. Some areas have Naloxone available for free. Google it.
