In addition to providing predicted lithology outputs, the Assisted Lithology Interpretation application provides two measures of confidence in that prediction, through its prior and posterior probability calculations.
Prior probability measures the similarity between the training data and the unseen data provided by the user. When plotted together with the lithology prediction down a well, the prior probability highlights predictions that are likely to be of lower confidence, allowing interpreters to focus on areas of the well where further analysis may be required.
Posterior probability is a measure of probability for the lithology output that shows all lithology classifications at a given depth. The measure appears as the cumulative likelihood of a particular lithology. The distributions can be used to provide additional information when validating or refining the initial prediction results.
