UFC Paris | MMA reaction video | Ciryl Gane | Tai Tuivasa | Marvin Vettori | Robert Whittaker | Joaquin Buckley
Description
Come with me to the first ever UFC Paris event.
Let’s hop on the Eurostar, soak up the ambience and then undo all that good, romantic work with some heavyweight violence.
I talk, before the event, about the fights I’m most excited about - Robert Whittaker versus Marvin Vettori, Joaquin Buckley versus Nassourdine Imavov, and John Makdessi versus Nasrat Haqparast.
We see a bit of Paris.
And then we get right into the action, with all my thoughts, fresh out of the MMA oven.
Zut alors.

It was only a matter of time before I got asked to kindly leave the UK.
Luckily for me, the UFC is headed to Paris. And so am I.
Au revoir motherfuckers.

OK. Maybe I’m not in France yet. Before I leave, I just wanted to share my excitement with you. Hopefully I’ll show you a bit o’Paris while I’m there. I very much doubt I’ll get any good footage at the event, but we can dream. And I’ll definitely catch up with you straight after the action. But we need to build anticipation, so let’s get into the fights that I have the highest hopes for on this card.
To smush that anticipation before I begin, which also happens to be my first date opening line, let me start by saying - this event has been plagued with cancellations. I keep having to rethink the fights I want to talk about. It’s exhausting. I hate thinking. I spoke last week about the troubles that Bellator had when it first came to Paris and I really hope we’re not hurtling face first into a similar disaster. Andrade versus Fiorot and Magomedov versus Muradov were both pretty up there on my list. And yet, now you shall just watch me sit here in silence.
Nahhhh.
There’s still loads to get hype for. And, speaking of me chatting on last week, that video was pretty Gane heavy - cue flashback - so I’m not going to be talking about the main event again this week. But I’ll link that one for you on the end screen.
Okay. I’m really going to start now.
John Makdessi versus Nasrat Haqparast
This fight was originally supposed to happen in 2019, but Nasrat got injured, then was rebooked for February of this year, but Makdessi suffered a complete hamstring tear and had to withdraw. Not great for those two, but it’s all worked out pretty well for me. Selfish. I’ll be eating that smugness when this one gets cancelled last minute, eh?
What I think I love most about this match up is the slow cooked beef.
Since the first fight was cancelled, both guys have - understandably - fought other people. And when Nasrat fought against Alex Munoz in 2020 - where he walked away with the decision win - Makdessi saw it as an opportunity to poke the bear and guarantee that rebooking.
He took to his keyboard like a true warrior, congratulating Nasrat on another snooze fest.
Haqparast retaliated, and we love to see it, saying:
You get the ass whooping next. Back up your words now big mouth. I will wait for you – and after I’m done with you I will leave you with a broken bloody face.”
The sexual tension is palpable.
Makdessi came back, basically, with his CV - pointing out how his resume of championship fighters versus Nasrat’s list of ‘nobodies’ means he doesn’t have a chance.
Yeah, Makdessi is a veteran and he’s competed against big names like [show] Cowboy, Yancy Medeiros and Francisco Trinaldo. But he’s lost to every single one of them, so I’m not sure how much of a flex that is.
Speaking of losing against the higher level competition - Nasrat is not doing so well right now. Since that Munoz fight, he got the win against Rafa Garcia, who we just saw lose again - bless him, against Drakar Klose at 277[show], but then the tides turned and Nasrat lost to both Dan Hooker and Bobby Green. Hence why the UFC have stopped booking him against the big guns.
Makdessi is coming into this fight off the back of a win - but it was a split decision win against a pretty inexperienced guy and that was way over a year ago.
So, why Lolly. Why are you excited about a fight between a couple of losers?
Rude. I don’t think you should call them that.
