Ann Granger is a prolific writer of crime mysteries, with four crime series under her belt and more than 30 crime books to her name. In recent years Ann has alternated between her Campbell and Carter series, and Lizzie Martin and Ben Ross series, the latter of which is set in Victorian England. The Dead Woman of Deptford is the sixth book in the Lizzie and Ben series, and involves the murder of a well-dressed, middle-aged woman with no witnesses. Ben is called from Scotland Yard to investigate the murder, while Lizzie is trying to resolve serious debt troubles for family friend Edgar Wellings. But when Lizzie agrees to visit Edgar’s debt collector, she finds her to be the very woman whose murder Ben is investigating.
We took the opportunity to catch up with Ann at the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival 2016 and got talking about The Dead Woman of Deptford, historical crime and how Ben and Lizzie have changed throughout the series.
