Описание: In Udupi, an incident at a paramedical college has led to the registration of an FIR against three girl students who allegedly recorded a video of their fellow student in the college washroom. TIMES OF INDIA: The FIR, filed at Malpe police station, includes the names of the students - Shabhnaz, Alfiya, and Aleema, along with the college administration. TIMES OF INDIA: The sections invoked in the FIR are 509, 204, 175, 34, and 66 (e) of the IT Act. Two separate suo motu cases have been registered by the police in connection with the video recording at Netra Jyothi Institute of Allied Health Sciences. TIMES OF INDIA: The charges against the students and the college administration include recording and later deleting the private video of a female student, as well as failing to provide details and evidence related to the incident, which could harm the reputation of the victim.

In a bizzare twist, Hindi Human Rights Activist Rashmi Samant, on raising this issue on the Internet, saw her house being paid a visit by the Karnataka Police. She claimed that as an activist who was highlighting this case, the cops were sent to intimidate her family. She also claimed to receive death and rape threats online from people who did not like her raising this issue. The same happened with another noted Influencer Shefali Vaidya who too was subjected to online attacks by trolls who did not like her taking up this issue.

We discussed this issue at length with one of India's finest Public Intellectuals, Abhijit Iyer Mitra and also discussed the role of alleged fact checker Zubair who said that Rashmi Samant and Shefali Vaidya were spreading misinformation and asked the Karnataka administration to look into their activities.
