By dividing the salary between partners:
You get £2k more in child benefit (since it starts to reduce once a single income surpasses £60k per year)
Both partners qualify for state pensions, so you receive 2x state pensions
You keep more of your income (because less of it falls into the higher or additional tax brackets)
Either way, one solution to paying less tax is to create more income. If you already work and don’t want two or three jobs, the other way is to invest. One property could increase your income by 20%, purchasing in places like the North where the entry point is lower means you will have to put less down..
