Farmers Guard Paddy Overnight in Sundargarh Mandi | Procurement Delay Sparks Anger

Описание: Nearly two months after the paddy harvest, farmers are still unable to sell their produce in Sundargarh.

At Jharmunda mandi under Jarangloi LAMPS in Bargaon block, more than 30 farmers are spending sleepless nights guarding their paddy in extreme cold. Wrapped under tarpaulins, they are protecting their hard-earned crop amid fear and uncertainty.

Adding to their distress, over 22 elephants are reportedly roaming nearby, increasing the risk of any untoward incident during the dark hours.

Ground Reality:

Over 50 farmers were scheduled to sell around 1,200 quintals of paddy

Farmers brought paddy early morning as instructed

Procurement did not take place as expected

Farmers forced to stay overnight at the mandi

The situation has raised serious questions over the state’s paddy procurement system this year.
