While road tripping in 2022, I noticed that my body started to feel a little restricted from being stuck in the car seat for so many hours.
I also noticed that picnic tables are in abundance around the country, so I started to use them to stretch my body out in between the long car rides.
If you’re planning a road trip, or if you’re stuck in the office all day, this “Picnic Flow” might come in handy to wake up your body and increase blood flow. It’s also a nice way to spend 10-20 minutes out of the car in nature.
To provide a little context, I wanted to open up my hips and spine, so I first started playing in the deep lunge position. I would explore reaching in different directions to open up the legs and spine which lead to reaching in all 3 planes.
Next, I started to shift forward and back which helped to target both the hip flexors and hamstrings. The second position came about a short while later as I began to think about the generally narrow stance of the hips while sitting, so I began to play with the lateral position.
Lastly, I wanted to get a little pump one day, so I started doing classic dips. I quickly realized there was a lot more potential in the move for the shoulders, spine, and hips.
