Описание: Less than a half hour drive from San Miguel de Allende is the tiny but important & historical town of Atotonilco. The sanctuary was founded in 1740 as a spiritual retreat, and Ignacio Allende married here in 1802. Eight years later he returned with Miguel Hidalgo and a band of independence rebels en route from Dolores to San Miguel to take the shrine's banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe as their flag.Inside, the sanctuary has six chapels and is vibrant with statues, folk murals and paintings. Known as the "Sistine Chapel" of Mexico, the detailed artwork inside is absolutely breathtaking! The videos & pictures are NOTHING compared to being there up close. Stendhal syndrome was in full effect. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is an absolute day trip from San Miguel de Allende!
