How secondhand home goods could help restore dignity for a Portlander in need

Описание: For more than two decades, Community Warehouse has been collecting household goods in “dignity condition” to help people in need furnish their homes. The well-lit, high-ceilinged warehouse is stocked with mattresses sorted by size, couches crowded together, framed art stacked vertically for easy perusing and chairs grouped in matched sets. Racks with bins of kitchen tools like measuring cups, spatulas and whisks line the back wall. Sheets are organized by color and size behind a counter manned by a volunteer.

Between its three metro area locations, the nonprofit furniture bank – one of four in Oregon – helps people furnish 70 homes a week. Everyone they work with has been referred through a nonprofit or government agency.
